Most emergency calls come down to a handful of problems - a key snapped in the lock, a euro cylinder that's worn past the point it will turn, a multipoint mechanism that won't engage, or lost keys that need a same-day cylinder change. I attend all of these across Newcastle, Gateshead and the wider North East, usually the same day I'm called.
Locked Out - Non-Destructive Entry First
If you're locked out, my first approach is always to get you back inside without damaging the door or the lock. Most residential lockouts - lost keys, a key left inside, a stuck latch or a snapped key - can be resolved without drilling. I'll ask a few quick questions about the door and lock when you call and give you a clear picture of what to expect before I arrive. No call-out fee on top of the work, day or night.
For worn or failed cylinders, I carry common euro cylinder replacements in the van. If the lock is beyond repair, I'll replace it on the same visit and hand you new keys before I leave. For multipoint mechanisms - the gearbox strip that runs up the edge of a UPVC or composite door - I can replace the gearbox alone or the full mechanism without removing the door.
Post-Break-In Lock Changes
After a break-in, the priority is getting the door secure before anything else. I replace compromised cylinders, re-align doors that have shifted on impact and replace mechanisms that have been forced. I carry anti-snap cylinders as standard - the sensible baseline after any break-in on a front door. I'll fit the replacement and confirm the door is properly secured before I leave.
For lost or stolen keys, I change the cylinder on the same visit rather than leave the existing one in place. If keys are out there and unaccounted for, the cylinder is the thing to change.
