When to Call a Locksmith Out

I come to you, instead of you bringing the lock to a workshop. For most household lock emergencies that turns it into a same-day job - I turn up with the tools and stock to open, repair or replace the lock there and then. The locksmith services I'm called about most often are below.

Locked Out at Your Front Door

If your key snapped, the cylinder broke, or you've left the keys inside, I can get you back in without damaging the door. Most front-door lockouts on a UPVC, composite or wooden door come down to a worn euro cylinder or a multipoint mechanism that has stopped engaging. Either is usually a same-day fix.

A Broken Lock or Lost Keys

Stiff or jammed locks usually mean a worn cylinder or a misaligned door. If keys have gone missing, I'd change the cylinder rather than risk the same lock failing again next week - lost keys are a security issue first. I'll hand you a fresh set of spare keys before I leave.

What I Can Do at Your Door

Most household locksmith services are something I can sort from the van. As a domestic locksmith I cover the lock types you'd find on a typical Newcastle home - euro cylinders, mortice locks, night latches, multipoint mechanisms and UPVC door locks. Common locks are stocked, so the most common jobs become same-day jobs.

Open Locked Doors and Lock Repair

Non-destructive entry first, every time. If a lock can be picked, I'll pick it. If a repair is more cost-effective for you than a replacement, I'll repair it - lock repairs on euro cylinders, multipoint gearboxes that have stopped engaging, and stiff UPVC doors are routine and don't always mean a full replacement.

Fit New Locks and Cylinders

If the lock has had its day, I'll change it on the spot. The lock types I most often replace are:

Euro Cylinders

Anti-snap cylinders are what I fit on a front door as standard. The snapping risk on older cylinders is the thing burglars look for, and a swap takes the same day.

British Standard Mortice Locks

BS3621 mortice locks are the insurance-grade standard for wooden doors. I can swap a worn or non-BS lock for a British Standard equivalent on the same day.

Multipoint Mechanisms

The multipoint mechanism inside a UPVC door is the strip of hooks and rollers up the edge. When it stops engaging, the cylinder is rarely the problem - it's usually the gearbox in the middle of the strip. I can replace the gearbox alone or the whole mechanism, without removing the door.

How a Mobile Callout Works

The process is simple. I do every job myself, and you'll deal directly with me from the first phone call to the lock being fixed.

1. Call Me Direct

You ring me - no call centre, no agency. Tell me what's going on at the door, and I'll give you an honest answer about whether it's a repair or a replacement, and whether it actually needs an auto locksmith or a different specialist. I'll say so on the call.

2. I Head Over and Sort It

I drive anywhere in the North East and start work as soon as I arrive. Card payments are accepted on the doorstep. You only pay for the work done; there's no separate call-out fee on top.
